Travis Pastrana and the Nitro Rally Cross circuit hit the offroad track at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park November 13-14th for a two day event on dirt and I really liked the concept. Admittedly, these aren't stock cars; however, they're a lot closer to what we all see and drive ourselves on the streets and not at a ridiculous cost to run, at least in motorsports terms, making it a little more relatable for the fans and more accessible for someone who may want to get involved as a driver/owner. As a photographer, they were fun to watch running the course that Travis helped put together for the event, and with as many jumps built into the track, these were cars that were really flying. The Joker Run on the other hand, took the racers outside the track onto a small dirt rally course; but, then re-entered the track with a dramatic jump back in on the front straight away.
I thought the format was fun too, the first day held the Battle Bracket event which was a one-on-one bracket style racing and was great to also the racers to have a little spotlight in between the more typical pack qualifying for Sunday racing.
All in all, I thought it was a great event and a great event to shoot, and I hope to see Travis and the Nitro Rally Cross back at Wild Horse Pass next year.
