It's been a while since I've been able to spend time with my friends in the Arizona Drag Boat Association; but, they held their March Madness race weekend at Wild Horse Pass the 2nd and 3rd and I wasn't going to miss that opportunity to catch up with them.
It was a smaller field this weekend so the racing was compressed, 3 pretty quick qualifying rounds on Saturday and then into eliminations on Sunday, and we were done by 1pm. Despite the funny weather on Saturday, we were all treated to a Scott Dolezal and Randy Melvin River Racer final which is world class at any race, a Quick Eliminator final that was a race to simply break the beam when neither boat would start, and then some faces I hadn't seen in the winner's circle in a while. Judging by the smell of charcoal and meat smokers that were going, I think it's pretty safe to say a good time was had by all.
Lesson learned that weekend: always carry a paddle, you never know when you'll need one.
